Lexus NX Overview

There is one noticeable problem when a certain manufacturer is underpinned by another. In the case of Lexus, the parenting company is Toyota. While it is perfectly fair to state that both names share the same values in terms of values and ethos, comparing the two constantly would be a bit of an injustice. Qualities will inevitably be shared (features, powertrains), but Lexus can be placed more in the luxury segment of the market.
This cannot be more true than when we observe the latest offering from Lexus, the NX model. It continues the undulating trend of luxury fitted into every aspect of the assembling. From its exterior aesthetics through to the cabin, the Lexus NX is well equipped to cater to the needs of the higher end of the SUV market.

It is not without intention, however. Decorating the latest Lexus NX model with tech and luxury is deliberate in ensuring a closer synergy between vehicle and motorist. The model showcases the Lexus Driving Signature, a functionality that allows for a more intuitive driving experience. It also heightens the vehicle's comfort. The newest Lexus NX is available in 5 different variants:
- Lexus NX 250 EX
- Lexus NX 350h EX
- Lexus NX 350h SE
- Lexus NX 350h F Sport
- Lexus NX 350 F-Sport

The overall impression of the Lexus NX’s exterior is athletic and commanding. This is thanks to its sharp finishes and larger tyres. Lexus has affected light touches to the exterior of this range. The front grille is still striking in its design but is a tad smaller than its predecessors. The Lexus logo has also been written out when we observe the rear of the vehicle, which contributes to a luminous effect. Another standout would be the inclusion of a panoramic sunroof, which gives the effect of more space in the cabin and allows for a more modern feel.
The cabin of the Lexus NX is designed to elevate the comfort of the motorist and the passengers. This is especially apparent with the leather seats, which are fitted with heaters and ventilation. A standout in the interior of this model would no doubt be the addition of the digital speedometer, which adds an almost futuristic feel to the model.

Elegant aesthetics aside for just a moment, the Lexus NX remains formidable on the road. Models have the capability of reaching a top speed of up to 200km/h. This range has also presented Lexus with an opportunity to continue to refine its hybrid technology. The hybrid models are particularly frugal on petrol, given the marriage of electric and petrol engines. The benefit of having a hybrid option is the variety that it offers motorists. Not only will the range of innovation appeal to the tech-savvy consumer, but it will also do the same for the environmentally-conscious one. Especially those that may not be ready to take the full leap over to electric cars.
The focus on safety features is where we see traditional Toyota values being championed. The brand has introduced the Lexus Safety System +3.0 here, with innovation that even allows the vehicle to automatically slow down in the instance of oncoming vehicles. There are more options as well, such as a Blind Spot Monitor and Lane Trace Assist. Impressive amongst these options is the Safe Exit Assist, a functionality that can pick up movement outside and warn an occupant when it is not safe to leave the vehicle.

The Lexus NX range has also been competitively priced. The entry model retails for R912 400, whilst the model at the top of the range comes in at R1 140 900.
